What Is a Cash Calculator and Who Uses It?
A cash calculator (also called a cash denomination counter or money tally tool) totals the value of physical cash by letting you enter the quantity of each note and coin denomination separately. Instead of adding up multiple stacks manually — where a single miscounted bundle means recounting everything — you enter quantities once and get an instant verified total.
Retail shopkeepers and kirana store owners use it at day-end to reconcile the cash drawer against the day’s sales. Cashiers at events, canteens, and petrol stations use it to verify shift handover amounts. Individuals use it to count savings kept at home or verify cash received from property or vehicle transactions. Bank and post office counter staff use denomination counters to verify deposit amounts before processing.
This tool supports four currencies — INR (Indian Rupee), USD (US Dollar), EUR (Euro), and GBP (British Pound) — covering all denominations of notes and coins currently in circulation for each.
Indian Rupee (INR) Denominations Currently in Circulation
Reference for INR mode. ₹2000 notes withdrawn from circulation by RBI in May 2023 — legal tender but no longer issued. Most ₹2000 notes have been deposited. The tool includes this denomination for counting any remaining notes still held.
| Type | Denomination | Status | Common Use |
| Note | ₹500 | Active — most common high-value note | Daily transactions, ATM |
| Note | ₹200 | Active | Mid-value transactions |
| Note | ₹100 | Active — very common | Retail, change |
| Note | ₹50 | Active | Small retail, autos |
| Note | ₹20 | Active | Small purchases |
| Note | ₹10 | Active | Small purchases, buses |
| Note | ₹2000 | Withdrawn (May 2023) — legal tender if held | Count if still in cash drawer |
| Coin | ₹20 | Active | Issued but less common |
| Coin | ₹10 | Active — very common | Retail, vending |
| Coin | ₹5 | Active | Daily small change |
| Coin | ₹2 | Active | Small change |
| Coin | ₹1 | Active | Small change, rounding |
₹1 and ₹2 coins are legal tender but rarely used in most urban retail transactions. Include them in the Coins section if counting petty cash or temple hundi collections where small coins are common.

How to Use This Cash Calculator
- Select currency from the dropdown — INR (₹), USD ($), EUR (€) or GBP (£)
- Under Notes: enter the quantity (count) of each note denomination you have — leave blank or enter 0 for denominations you do not have
- Under Coins: enter the quantity of each coin denomination similarly
- Grand Total, Notes Total, Coins Total and piece counts update in real time as you type — no Calculate button needed
- Click Reset to clear all fields and start a new count
Tip for shopkeepers: sort your cash into denomination bundles before counting — all ₹500 notes together, all ₹100 notes together, etc. Count each bundle once, enter the total quantity per denomination. One pass through the tool gives you the verified day-end total in under 30 seconds.
